MarAzul Summer of Culture

MarAzul Group is promoting 'Summer of Culture' in London, a series of events involving Capoeira and other Afro-Brazilian cultural activities.

The events will start on Friday, 17th August, and go on until Sunday, 2nd September, taking place in various venues across London.

Our special guest is Master Jerônimo Capoeira (Capoeira Angola School – Australia & Brazil), who will be giving talks about Brazilian culture, as well as music, Capoeira, samba de roda, maculelê and percussion workshops.

Programme

Friday, 17th August
Workshop 'Samba no Pé & Pandeiro Carioca', with Danielly Monteiro and Mestre Carlão from Kabula Arts & Culture.
Introduction to percussion with pandeiro and some of the old bohemian rhythms, and traditional Cariocan samba.
This class is suitable for all levels of experience in dance and pandeiro.

Friday, 24th August
Special 'Friday Axé' welcome Roda for Mestre Jerônimo Capoeira.

Saturday, 25th August
Music and Instruments Workshop with Mestre Jerônimo Capoeira.
Musical practice: ladainda and corrido, foundation for the game in the roda; Tuning, pronunciation and vocalising the sounds of capuera; Group practice, ladainhas and corridos.
Instrument practice: Talk about the orchestration of Capuera Angola and Regional; Instrument practice in groups; Play and sing the ladainhas and corridos practiced before.

Capoeira for All (Open Roda) at Notting Hill Carnival.

Talk & Discussion - 'Capoeira - Ritual, Art and Citizenship'
with Mestre Jerônimo Capoeira. Debate and discussion amongst participants.
