Mestre Joãozinho da Figueira

Friday roda

Do you remember the Friday Roda 10 years ago? It’s been going on for that long now, almost every week, so we thought that deserves a little celebration.

We have great pleasure in inviting all of you who have been with us in the UK to support the development of capoeira as an Afro-Brazilian art form, to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of our Friday Roda of Axé!

Come and join us for this special date to play lots of Capoeira. We’ll round off the evening with Joaozinho’s delicious caldo de feijão and play a little samba to complete the energy.

Watch this space as we’ll be posting photos from the last 10 years’ rodas – can you spot yourself?!

Chris & Morris. Chris was one of the great artists (together with Tanya) who painted our MarAzul banner for us. He is unfortunately no longer with us. But he is remembered every week when we put up the banner for the roda.

 2006

We started our monthly programmes with Special Guests … Mestre Simon Fantasma, Mestre Pacheco, Mestre Carlão and many more!

And of course, we started frequenting the ‘Bar do Português’ (Escondidinho) after the roda.
